The Oriental Residence Bangkok is an exquisite serviced apartment located on 110 Wireless Road in the up-market suburb of Phloen Chit. The boldly standing glass and concrete structure offers an ideal base for relaxed, contemporary and luxury living amidst the hustle and bustle of Bangkok, where all your lifestyle needs are taken care of. The Onyx Hospitality Group’s residence offers a mixture of hotel accommodation and serviced apartments, comprising of 46 private ownership units and 145 serviced residences. The serviced residence includes 41 grand deluxe suites, 70 one-bedroom suites, 30 two-bedrooms suites and four three-bedroom suites.

I had the opportunity to inspect the serviced apartments, facilities and discuss the Oriental Residence Bangkok philosophy with the General Manager, Mr Sukamal Mondal, at the in-house restaurant Café Claire, well-known for its Thai and Western cuisines. The following is a summary of my thoughts and facts of everything you will need to know to when considering the Oriental as your Bangkok residence.

Location

The Oriental Residence is located on 110 Wireless Rd, Phloen Chit, a central and upmarket suburb that is littered with luxury condos, malls and restaurants. Phloen Chit provides easy access to popular hangout spots Chit Lom and Siam, making it perfect for day and night recreation. The area is also well-known for its thriving culinary scene, scattered with fine dining restaurants including Gaggan, a progressive Indian restaurant included in Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants award.

Wireless Road more specifically is a well-maintained street that has a reputation for being home to famous luxury residences including Meridien’s Plaza Athénée, Sansiri’s 98 Wireless and 8 embassy residences. The Oriental enjoys close proximity to Lumpini park, a great place to go for a run or relax in the shade, and is also close to the main road (Phloen Chit Rd) and BTS, for convenient access to the greater Bangkok.

  • Notable embassy and shopping district
  • Walking distance to Lumpini Park (500m) and Phloen Chit BTS (750m)
  • Shopping: Central Embassy (800 m), Central Chidlom (1 km), CentralWorld (2.5 km), Siam Paragon (4.5 km)

Facilities

The 4th floor is home to the Play Deck and marble clad open air lounging area that hosts an indoor lap pool flanked by leisurely couch seating, children’s pool, bar and a modest size gym – all with gorgeous views of Bangkok. The open air lounge and pool is not only a great area to swim and relax, but is also a desirable place to entertain guests.

Included on the 4th floor is an impressive function room, known as the Play Deck, complete with lounge, kitchen and dining table that has been created with corporate gigs and social functions in mind. Booking doesn’t cheap but worth the convenience however with a starting price tag of 100,000 baht for the day.

Serviced Apartments

Suites come in studio style, one, two and three bedroom variations. Each with nice engineering wood floors for the entrance and living areas and stone flooring for the kitchen and bathroom – both of which gives a comfortable homely feeling. Kitchens are fully-equipped, complete with microwave, refrigerator and stove. Bathrooms include a separated rain shower and bathtub, are well lit and fitted with marble countertops and tiling that give a luxurious feeling.

The Grand Deluxe (studio style) has hotel feeling and would make a comfortable short-term stay for the bachelor or travelling professional. I was however more impressed by the one, two and three bedroom suites that included living areas that give a more spacious feeling.

Suites start at 120k baht per month for the Grand Deluxe and move up to 280k per month for the Three-Bedroom Suite. Although this price is not for the faint of heart, if comparable luxury residences of a similar standard and location are taken into account, then the Oriental Residence Bangkok offers good value.

Focus On Luxury

The Oriental has a repertoire of luxury services including among many: valet parking, luxury car service (limousine and BMW 5 series), Suvarnabhumi Airport express service and shopping butler for an ‘exclusive shopping experience and service.’ It is quite apparent that the Oriental aims to achieve that of a pampered lifestyle for its guests.

I had the opportunity to talk with Mr. Sukamoi Mondal, the General Manager and fellow resident of the Oriental Bangkok. Mr. Mondal described contemporary luxury as being more than expensive furnishings and high ceilings. “Luxury today is how a residence engages and interacts with their guests – what consolation is a chandelier if you’re greeted by unfriendly staff?”

This attitude towards luxury is conveyed through the staff who appear very attentive and greet you enthusiastically as you enter the lobby with friendly gestures and smiles. All of these, among other services, really gives the impression that management has gone out of its way to ensure its guests enjoy the most comfortable stay possible.

  • Pillow menu
  • Valet parking
  • Shopping butler
  • Fast track service at Suvarnabhumi (1500baht – 2000baht)
  • Limousine service
  • Shoe shine service
  • On call doctor or nurse (24h)
  • In-house restaurants: Savelberg Thailand, Café Claire, room service
  • Complimentary Shuttle Service to Phloen Chit BTS Station, Chit Lom BTS Station, Central Embassy and Nearby Hospitals
